Accepting Submissions

Current Reading Period Ends June 1, 2026

Tidal Lantern accepts most mediums of art and literature. We favor residents of Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties in the South Carolina Lowcountry. We value authenticity over perfection.

We define 'art' broadly. We are less interested in forty-year-olds with MFAs than we are in four-year-olds that are MFAs (Masters of Fingerpainting Arts). If you think your kid's story is great, we probably do too, and we'd also love those doodles you've kept in your notebook for years.

Tidal Lantern is for all of Charleston's people. We publish children next to computer scientists and call it high art. Our community is the real magnum opus.

Contributors we have featured in the past...

We seek artwork from acrylics to finger paintings, poetry and prose whether fiction or memoir, photography and short films, and even code art and poetry. Send poems and images in batches of 3-5. Prose should be 1500-5000 words. Submit videos as a link (YouTube or any other video hosting service). For code art, submit an app, HTML file that runs a live script, or video demo (as a link).

Print preference is given to students, but writers of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to submit. Writers from abroad are considered if their work is relevant to the region. We accept reprints.

The first issue will go to print in April 2027. Compensation is 2 copies, and if funds allow, cash prizes for the 'best' 2 submissions.

We are not gatekeepers. We are doormen.
